This is a Teak Wood Gong striker Mallet hand made in Indonesia..........used in top Gamelan orchestras
The red 'cushion' is wrapped in rope and is quite hard....you can work it soft, if that is
the sound you are looking for.
 
This handsome Mallet comes in three sizes
This mes in thre8" long (~3" wide) and made of Teakwood....it would sell for almost $75 in your local music store....
